Fort Barnard Dog Park

2101 S Pollard St, Arlington, VA 22204

One of the few Arlington dog parks with lights, which makes it the go-to spot for after-work visits once the sun starts setting early. Fully fenced with packed dirt and patchy grass, benches along the fence line, and an easy walk from the Columbia Pike corridor. Street parking only, and it fills up fast between 5 and 7 p.m. on weekdays.

Fort Ethan Allen Dog Park

3829 N Stafford St, Arlington, VA 22207

Also known as the Madison Community Canine Area, this is one of the roomiest and best-kept off-leash areas in north Arlington. Big grass field, real shade from mature trees, a drinking fountain, and — rare for Arlington — actual parking. The gentle slope means it drains better than most, so it bounces back quickly after rain.

Glencarlyn Dog Park

Glencarlyn Dog Park

301 S Harrison St, Arlington, VA 22204

A long, shaded community canine area tucked into Glencarlyn Park along Four Mile Run. The run is unfenced on the creek side, so it is best for dogs with solid recall — but that creek is exactly why regulars love it in summer. Dirt and wood chip footing under mature hardwoods, with the Four Mile Run Trail and Long Branch Nature Center steps away. Parking is limited, so weekday mornings are the easy window.

James Hunter Dog Park

James Hunter Dog Park

Also known as James Hunter Park

1230 N Hartford St, Arlington, VA 22201

Clarendon's central off-leash park, and the most urban dog park in Arlington. The signature feature is a canine wading pool fed by a rock waterfall that runs on harvested rainwater, so dogs cool off without a creek. Fully fenced with stone dust and paver surfaces, lights until 9 p.m., and a steady after-work crowd from the surrounding apartment towers. One combined dog area rather than a separate small-dog side, street parking or a nearby garage, and closed for maintenance Monday, Wednesday and Friday mornings from 10 a.m. to noon.
