    • Off-leash is legal only inside a designated, posted dog park or off-leash area — every other public space in the DMV requires a leash.
    • Your dog needs a current rabies vaccination, and most jurisdictions want the tag visible on the collar.
    • Puppies under about four months and dogs in heat are excluded from nearly every DMV dog park.
    • Owners must stay inside the enclosure, keep the dog in sight, and carry a leash at all times.
    • You are responsible for cleaning up waste and for any bite or injury your dog causes.
    • Most parks cap you at three dogs per handler and prohibit food, treats, and glass inside the fence.
